Aluminum Sheet 6061 is the least expensive and most versatile of the heat treatable aluminum alloys Sheet . It has most of the good qualities of aluminum, offering a range of good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It can be fabricated by most commonly used techniques, including welding and furnace brazing. In the annealed condition, it has good workability. The full range of T6 properties may be obtained by artificial aging. 6061 grade aluminum is used for a wide variety of products and applications from truck bodies and frames to screw machine parts and structural components. 6061 is used where appearance and better corrosion resistance with good strength are required.

Alloy 6061 aluminum Sheet are one of the most versatile and widely used of the heat treatable alloys. This wrought tooling Sheet  exhibits excellent machinability, weldability, and medium strength. Though less strong then most of the 2xxx and 7xxx alloys, 6061 is typically selected where welding or brazing is required or for its high corrosion resistance in all tempers. It has exceptional joining characteristics, good acceptance to anodizing and is easily cold worked and formed in the annealed condition.

It is commonly available in pre-tempered grades such as 6061-O (annealed), tempered grades such as 6061-T6 (solutionized and artificially aged) and 6061-T651 (solutionized, stress-relieved stretched and artificially aged).

Annealed 6061 (6061-O temper) has maximum tensile strength no more than 120 MPa (18,000 psi), and maximum yield strength no more than 55 MPa (8,000 psi). The material has elongation (stretch before ultimate failure) of 25–30%.

T4 temper 6061 has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 210 MPa (30,000 psi) and yield strength of at least 110 MPa (16,000 psi). It has elongation of 16%.
Application of Aluminum Sheet 6061

The main elements are Mg and Si in the aluminum sheet 6061 with medium strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability. Alloy 6061 can be painted on the enamel and anodize oxidation coloring used as building decoration materials. Aluminum sheet 6061 are widely used in all kinds of industrial structures which have certain strength and high antimicrobial resistance, such as manufacturing truck, take style buildings, ships, trains, furniture, machinery parts, precisionmachining etc.

Aluminum sheet 6061 has some differences between T6 and T651.In general, the internal stress of T6 is big and when alloy 6061 is processing, it will be out of shape. For alloy 6061, the most suitable processing condition should be T651, it is stretched on the basis of T6 to eliminate the internal stress.
